Exactly one week ago, Couleur Café announced its brand new summer project. Today we find out what and who to expect at GATE. This is the line-up, for more details on each artist, check the line-up tab. Soon we'll add some more acts to this line-up.
Thursday 26/8: Volta Day
For the opening day, the organization consulted the guys at Volta, a Brussels stronghold that supports emerging artists, provides rehearsal space and organizes exciting concerts. Together they bring us the impressive soul & RnB singer Stace, the jazz-rock blend of Tukan, none other than Belgium's finest rapper-poet Brihang, and the reknowned Dutch DJ Marcelle, who has treated the world’s biggest clubs and festivals to some mad sets.
Friday 27/8: Hosted by Zwangere Guy
Our favorite middle finger to the establishment, better known as Zwangere Guy, is calling the shots on Friday. He’ll single-handedly kick of the day with a DJ set by Papa ZG, followed by Lander & Adriaan (the geniuses behind Pomrad and STUFF), Brussels rap sensation Frenetik, local turntable icon LeFto and the all-female Amsterdam deck swagger of DRKNGHTS Collective.
Saturday 28/8: Gate Dub Sessions : The Roots Corner meets Reggaebus
Saturday might just become an epic memory for the Belgian dub community. The two biggest collectives in the country, Reggaebus and The Roots Corner, will install their homemade sound systems facing each other on our courtyard. An unprecedented collaboration with countless local and international guests, yet to be announced.
Sunday 29/8 and Sunday 5/9
On Sundays, it’s open house with numerous sporty, artistic and culinary activities, as well as collaborations with local associations. There will be no concerts on Sundays. More info soon.
Thursday 2/9
Week 2 kicks of quite wonderfully with The Gallands, father and son who earned name and fame in the jazz scene. For the French hip-hop prodigy of the moment, Benjamin Epps, it will be his very first Belgian show. Afterwards, the great Pongo (you know, the voice of Buraka Som Sistema's Wegue Wegue), will light the place on fire. Brussels hip-hop institute FRONTAL, are more than able to keep that fire burning.
Friday 3/9
Already confirmed for Friday: the unrivalled rap queen of Antwerp, Miss Angel, and the irresistible Berlin collective Habibi Funk, who specialize in blazing DJ sets, packed with Arabic funk music. More names to follow soon.
Saturday 4/9
The last 4 concerts of GATE form the perfect blueprint of the Couleur Café signature. Starting out with Juicy, two ingenious RnB princesses with a strong message. The L'Or Du Commun crew bring their rap-bangers to tear down the stage for us (handy!). Without touching the decks, because that's where Amsterdam DJ Philou Louzolo and his glorious set of house, afro and beats will get us moving one last time.
